Explore the bare plains of the Namib Desert, the apricot colored dunes of Sossusvlei, the romantic coastal town of Swakopmund nestled between the ocean and the desert, the rough terrain of the Damaraland and the abundant wildlife in the world renowned Etosha National Park on this classic Namibia tour.

Arrival at Hosea Kutako (Windhoek International) airport, where you will receive your rental vehicle. Once you have sorted out all the formalities for your vehicle, drive to Windhoek, the capital city of Namibia. After check-in at the accommodation establishment, you can explore the city of Windhoek. Windhoek is a city of many contrasts. Modern skyscrapers blend with historic buildings dating from the turn of the century. Several buildings from the German colonial era have been preserved and restored to fulfill useful functions in the community today.

Early morning rise for a visit to the Sossusvlei dunes. The road from Sesriem to the 2x4 car park (4 kilometres from the vlei) is tarred but is in poor condition and is pot-holed. Because the dunes close in and the road becomes a sandy track near the vlei itself, if you do not have your own 4x4 you will have to either walk the final stretch from the 2x4 parking area to the vlei or use the 4x4 transfer service. The second attraction here is the Sesriem Canyon.

South of Twyfelfontein is the Burnt Mountain, a panorama of desolation with coloured rocks contrasting vividly against the grey-black surroundings. The Organ Pipes, a mass of basalt slabs in a ravine gouged out by a river, is another geological curiosity in the area. Your destination for today is the Etosha region.
