This seventeen day guided safari combines the highlights of Namibia with four nights of camping adventure in the rugged Damaraland and Kaokoland. Visit the Afri-Cat Foundation at Okonjima, enjoy the abundant wildlife of the world famous Etosha National Park before starting on your adventurous camping trip to the Hoanib river valley in search of desert elephants, Purros and the diverse Palmwag Lodge Concession. After a visit to the rustic Palmwag Lodge, explore the romantic coastal town of Swakopmund, the bare plains of the Namib Desert and the apricot coloured dunes of Sossusvlei.
Arrival at Hosea Kutako (Windhoek International) Airport, where you will be met by your guide. Subsequent drive via the capital of Namibia, Windhoek, in a northerly direction via Okahandja to Okonjima, home of the Africat Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the conservation and protection of Namibian wild cats, in particular leopard and cheetah. Departure from Okonjima via Otjiwarongo, Otavi and Tsumeb to Mushara Bush Camp. Mushara is located only 8 km from the von Lindequist Gate on the eastern outskirts of the Etosha National Park. Discover the mysteries of the African bush in Etosha National Park. We are spending the days doing game drives in the park and visit the numerous waterholes that attract a large diversity of animal and bird species. From east to west past Fort Namutoni and Halali Camp the route leads to Anderssons Camp just outside the Park. Anderssons offers a waterhole and viewing hide, where visitors can observe at close quarters a spectacle of wildlife congregating and interacting.

The route leads through wilderness area to the Khowarib Gorge, a narrow gorge in the dry Hoanib River and home to a few Damara and Herero families. We set up camp at the Khowarib Community Campsite. The campsite sits on the banks of the Khowarib River. Enjoy the first night of your camping adventure, Namibia’s spectacular scenic beauty and colourful bird- and wildlife as well as the noises of the African nights, whilst sitting around the campfire. Depart after a hearty bush breakfast. The journey continues to the Hoanib River, a dry river bed densely overgrown with nutritious acacia trees providing the necessary fodder for the desert adapted elephant. Optimal chances to encounter one of the breeding herds of these giant creatures during the following game viewing drives through the valleys and side arms of this unique natural paradise. Only a few places on the planet can offer the level of privacy and wilderness experience as the approximate 5000 square kilometre private Palmwag Reserve. This desert reserve has a number of fresh water springs that support healthy populations of animals including desert-adapted black rhino and elephant as well as large populations of the Hartmann’s mountain zebra, giraffe, oryx, springbok and kudu. The predator population is the largest outside the Etosha National Park with over 100 lion, cheetah, leopard, brown- and spotted hyena. Birdlife is prolific and diverse with most of Namibia’s endemics present. The Concession also supports nearly 70% of the world's largest free-ranging population of black rhinoceros and functions as the crucial core area in the region. En route to Swakopmund, we visit Twyfelfontein, which means “doubtful fountain” and resembles a large, open-air art gallery. This treasure house of rock engravings left by stone-age artists is regarded as one of the richest collections of rock engravings in Africa. South of Twyfelfontein is the Burnt Mountain, a panorama of desolation with coloured rocks contrasting vividly against the grey-black surroundings. The Organ Pipes, a mass of basalt slabs in a ravine gouged out by a river, is another geological curiosity in the area. Arrival at Swakopmund in the late afternoon. Early morning visit to Sossusvlei, a clay pan surrounded by some of the highest sand dunes in the world, which is surrounded by the possibly highest dunes in the world and is filled only with water in years when exceptionally good rainfall is received. We visit the Sesriem Canyon. It is said that the canyon got its name during the time of the ox wagon, when a person had to use six harness straps to haul water from the bottom of the canyon. Return journey via the Remhoogte Pass and Rehoboth to Windhoek. You will still have some time to explore the capital of Namibia. Overnight stay at Galton House – Bed & Breakfast
Depending on your departure time, spend the day in Windhoek doing some last minute shopping. In time for check-in on your outbound flight, road transfer from Galton House to Hosea Kutako Airport. Bid farewell to Namibia!
